  1. POSITION SUMMARY: 

    The Director of Racquet Sports reports to the General Manager/COO (GM/COO). He/She is responsible for providing exceptional leadership and operational direction for all aspects of tennis and platform tennis operations including but not limited to junior programs, lessons, special events and clinics. He/She must deliver a world class experience and service to members and their guests, while insuring the policies and best interests of the Club are met and protected. The Director of Racquet Sports budgets and implements effective operational policies to meet or exceed budget expectations and achieve departmental goals as established by the GM/COO. The responsibility to lead the tennis and platform tennis programs from a passionate, creative, supportive, progressive and team focused perspective is of critical importance for long-term success. 
     
  2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: 

    A. Responsible for the promotion, coordination and conducting of tennis clinic, special and competitive events and programs in an effort to attract and maintain members tennis and platform tennis interests.
    B. Responsive to members requests and strives to find creative ways to accommodate reasonable requests
    C.  Must believe he/she is in the Happiness Business and in the service philosophy: the answer is yes, what is the question? Monitors customer service by staff.
    D.  Evaluates and sets appropriate and necessary standards of operation, execution and delivery within the tennis and platform tennis operations; taking ownership for the entire member experience from arrival through departure.
    E.  The Director of Racquet Sports will integrate themselves with the membership, learning their names and their preferences and the operational requirements of the operation. 
    F.  Provides beginning through advanced instruction (private and group) for all levels of players. 
    G.  Enforces all Club rules and regulations governing the use of the Club/Facilities, its equipment and other property.
    H.  Works cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership.
    I.  Ensures proper inspection of the courts/facilities on a daily basis prior to the start of play and ascertain that all necessary maintenance has been performed and the courts are in a safe working order. Quickly reports any maintenance problems to the Facilities Manager as well as the GM/COO
    J.  Ensures that the courts are maintained properly throughout the season.  Prepares the courts for the season. Prepares the courts for the winter.  Oversees the staff that maintains the courts.
    K.  Organizes and monitors court usage including special events, clinics and lessons. 
    L.  Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
    M. Attends meetings as required by the GM/COO or VP of Special Events.
    N.  Evaluates and continue to develop, train and mentor the tennis and platform tennis operations staff.
    O.  Understands the use and benefits of services, products, programs, and activities by participating in regularly scheduled training workshops
    P.  Follows up on guest requests and comments reaching out to members on a regular basis
    Q.  Maintains an adequate supply of merchandise, equipment and supplies to support the members needs
    R.  Writes articles and notices about the facility and upcoming events for the website and club newsletter 
    S.  Supervises play, upholds guest policy, and ensures proper fees are charged.
    T.  Submits all lessons and/or sales forms to the tennis shop administrator or the club accounting office
    U.  Keeps records of all non-member tennis and paddle tennis lessons and pays club the agreed upon usage fee for non-member use
    V.  Monitors the financial performance of the tennis & paddle tennis department.  Helps to write the annual operating budget with the GM/COO.  Provides financial data as requested.  Completes a monthly financial variance report for the GM/COO
    W.  Expected to provide a visible presence in the tennis pro shop and platform tennis pro shop and on the courts to assist members, guests and employees
    X.  Works closely with his/her department head counterparts to ensure maximum enjoyment for the club’s members and guests
    Y.  Performs other duties as assigned 
     
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES) 
  1. Detail oriented
  2. Works well within a team
  3. Excellent communication skills
  4. Possesses Leadership skills
  5. Takes responsibility for multiple tasks independently to completion
  6. Responds to quickly changing deadlines and demands 
  7. Manages interpersonal relationships of all types via phone and email 
  8. Keeps tasks organized and on track 
  9. Shares ideas and creates new materials to improve effectiveness of processes and procedures 
  10. Experience in promoting and implementing varied program of events, classes and leagues 
  11. United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Elite Professional in good standing. 
  12. Must have a minimum of five years or more of professional tennis management experience. This experience should have been achieved largely at a respected, full service, club and provide evidence of impactful achievement. 
  13. Prior merchandise buying experience for a tennis facility.
  14. The ability to teach both tennis and platform tennis.
