Youth Tennis organization’s mission is to prepare young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, for success as individuals and as active, responsible citizens through innovative tennis, education, life skills and leadership development programming. Our programs bring together tennis, fitness, nutrition, performance, character development and family engagement. Ultimately, our organization provides opportunities for each individual to change their life trajectory through involvement in programs; building relationships with our outstanding coaches and mentors; and developing a purposeful identity of oneself and for one’s future.

Position Description

Our organization is currently seeking to hire a full-time Director of Community Programs to manage a significant collection of youth tennis and education programs in communities throughout Philadelphia, Chester and South Jersey that serve over 4,000 young people each year. The Director of Community Programs manages the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) summer program, the After-School Tennis Program, and other emerging community programs and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, Implement and continuously improve community programming including NJTL at 31+ sites and After-School Programs at 8+ sites.
  • Manage 100+ part-time community employees including recruiting, hiring, ongoing professional development and feedback, scheduling and evaluations.
  • Create and manage program budgets.
  • Form and nurture strategic partnerships with K-12 schools, universities, community and faith-based organizations, recreation centers, the School District of Philadelphia, and relevant City of Philadelphia departments and agencies throughout the Tri-State area.
  • Establish contracts, budgets, schedules and staffing plans for program sites.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to participants, families and partners.
  • Drive marketing, outreach and recruitment efforts for NJTL summer programming and other community programs, i.e. afterschool programs and field trips
  • Year-end assessment and follow-up of program partners including, but not limited to, after school partners, financial supporters, field trip visits and any other paid program partners.
  • Co-develop and implement, along with the Director of Player Development, an identification system to connect community participants with the Center.
  • Actively participate with senior colleagues regarding proposals and reports for donor cultivation and fund development to sustain and grow various community program initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred
  • 7+ years of program management experience
  • Successful track record in managing multi-dimensional programs, ideally programs dealing with youth, education or sports
  • Tennis background preferred, but not required
  • Comfort and experience in working in diverse communities, ideally in multiple neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia, Camden and South Jersey
  • High level of initiative, energy and entrepreneurial instincts; ability to set priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate in a clear and succinct manner
  • Proven experience in managing budgets and personnel, ideally in a multi-site inner-city program
  • Ability to evaluate current programming and to conceptualize and implement new program initiatives
  • Entrepreneurial flair to combine program development with marketing and cultivation of funders to sustain and expand programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and Power Point
  • Well-developed capacity to work effectively in a dynamic team setting with a diverse group of passionate people
  • Possess impeccable integrity, reliability, ability to keep commitments and act in the best interest of the organization at all times
